What is Phulkari?

Phulkari — literally “flower work” — is a traditional embroidery style from Punjab. It is known for bold geometric and floral motifs worked in bright, lustrous thread, traditionally using a darning stitch on the cloth. Phulkari has long been associated with weddings, festivals and family celebrations.

Today, Phulkari-style dupattas are made in many ways, from hand embroidery to machine embroidery and printed Phulkari patterns. They pair beautifully with plain suits and are a favourite for festive and wedding wear as well as everyday styling.
